A face only a mother could love

Some years ago, I was told by a friend that he had found a Green Heron’s nest along a little pothole at the edge of town. That was quite a thrill to me. I had never seen their nest before and my attempts to get good photos of adult Green Heron had all come up short.

If you have never taken a good close look at the Green Heron, you really should. It is truly one of the prettiest and at only eighteen inches long it is also one of the very smallest. Actually its back feathering may seem at times more bluish than green, but they do have a definite shaggy dark green cap.
