Join us for the sunset viewing at approximately 7:30 p.m. at Wolf Road Prairie (31st Street and Wolf Road in Westchester). For the past 10 years, we have had very good luck seeing the Woodcock flights on the Prairie. These trips are co-sponsored by Save the Prairie Society. SAVE THE DATE! The Chicago Audubon Society will hold its biennial Environmental Awards Banquet to honor those who have made contributions to conservation and birding in the Chicagoland area. We hope our members and others join us at the Banquet to celebrate those who have done so much to protect birds and the environment. This year the Banquet will be on Saturday, April 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m. As last year, it will be held at the Silver Stallion Restaurant, 1275 Lee Street/Mannheim Street in Des Plaines (between Algonquin and Oakton - CLICK HERE TO SEE MAP). Our featured speaker this year is Douglas Stotz, distinguished Ornithologist of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. Doug will speak about “Changes in our Avifauna Across Time,” discussing how bird species have fluctuated in abundance and distribution over the years in the Chicago area. Doug will also cover some of the reasons for this fluctuation, and some of the hazards bird populations have faced over the years, now and in the future. Dinner choices are chicken, salmon, or vegetarian. The cost is $30 per person. This year Chicago Audubon is expanding their format for Birdathon to include beginning birders who are interested in participating in a Birdathon event and feel they need some instruction. Beginner classes will be held on April 22 and May 5 at North Park Village Nature Center from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Then, the Birdathon for Beginners event will be held at North Park Village Nature Center on May 12, and each new birder team will be accompanied by an experienced birder from Chicago Audubon. Participants will form teams of 3-5 members and pledge as little as $35.00. A participant may pledge for themselves or have friends and family pledge for them.
