In this wider view of the near bone yard you can see the results of the regular search for those valuable ivory fragments––an overlapping series of pits with the uncovered bones thrown to one side. Because the pits hold melt water, provide shelter and offer bits of food they are a magnet to birds arriving on the island. Accordingly, they are one of the most birded sites on the island.
