The musical, spitting notes of skylarking Lapland Longspurs is an ever-present sound on Gambell during our visits in late May/early June. Because they are so common, few birders take the time to really study the dapper males. A study in earth tones, the striking rust, yellow, brown, black and white of a breeding plumaged male is truly a visual treat.
