28Seawatchatpoint

One of our favorite activities on Gambell––sea watch at the point. Early mornings are best for eiders and loons, late evenings have the pull of birding at midnight and hundreds of thousands of seabirds flying by. In 2006, our only Ivory Gull of the trip was spotted during a sea watch after midnight––luckily we still had our radio on as we were falling asleep! The gull visited the point a few times and only those who raced to the point were lucky enough to see it in action.
