33SiberianRubythroat

A poor quality photo, such is life with cropped digi-scoped photos!, but of a truly magnificent bird––a male Siberian Rubythroat. We had just finished our hike to the point from the far side of town when the alert came over the radio. That meant a hike all the way back across town to the far bone yard! Walking on the pea gravel of Gambell is NOT an enjoyable activity when you are in a hurry. Lucky for us, the bird stayed put, we even got to enjoy it the next morning. Not much of an identification challenge when seen from this viewpoint. The grippingly beautiful facial pattern makes up for the drab gray/brown remainder. Birding adventures like this are what visiting Gambell is all about.
