I like this Wood Sandpiper shot because it shows so many field marks quite well. Compared to Solitary or Green Sandpipers, Woods are longer-legged, not as dark and are distinctly brownish. The legs aren't bright yellow as a Lesser Yellowlegs, but are a more dull, brownish-yellow. You can see that the black barring on the side of the tail is composed of many narrow black bars. On Green Sandpiper these bars are thicker and less numerous. This individual also shows the fine streaking on the lower flanks--absent in the others.
