This is what we were searching for--a male Northern Wheatear. Although this photo was taken on Gambell, these rocky habitats are quite similar. Northern Wheatears are active birds—they never seem to stop flitting about the rocks. When they finally do stop, they bob their tails incessantly. This guy jumped atop a rock just long enough for me to take his picture.
